- Tweet useless daily drivel updates. Unfortunately twitter founders believe that their product should be mainly used for boring update stuff like, “I’m taking my dog for a walk” and “just had a salad”, so be sure to pepper in some of the mindless stuff to your updates.

- Avoid Mass Un-following. It appears that twitter is more concerned about un-following a whole lot a people over following too many.  I guess their reasoning is, why follow all those folks in the first place if you are only looking for them to follow you back?

- Up-load an image. Nothing quite screams spam like a default twitter image.  Don’t be lazy, upload a photo.

- Don’t use Auto DM’s – Everyone hates getting spam in their direct messages, and might block you right away.

- Don’t spam links – This one is the hardest one to follow when you are trying to make money off twitter, so keep your affiliate links to a minimum and mix them into retweeting great articles.

- Use Hummingbird2 - If you want to grow your follower numbers into a massive army, then you need to be famous or using auto-follow twitter software.  Hummingbird 1 will grow your numbers fast as it uses the follow unfollow chrun method, when can get your account suspended.  Hummingbird 2 uses keywords and follows users at a much more natural pace.

OK, I keep getting asked this question from folks who are skeptical…

“How do you really make money on twitter?”
There are now tonnes of ebooks out there to make money with twitter and most of them are pure scams and they only make money by selling you the ebook on making money.

I’m going to explain the basics right here. No tricks, no scam.

These are the real methods that I use to make money off twitter.
I’ve made several thousand dollars and currently average around $1000 per month off twitter. 

There are two main WAYS of sending your message, and two main TYPES of messages to make money off of.

The 2 main ways of sending the message are:
- The Obvious one – the twitter update field
- The other one – Direct messages

The 2 mains types of messages to make money on twitter are:
- An affiliate link
- A sponsored twitter message

An affiliate link is the key way that you can make any money off twitter, and if you don’t understand what an affiliate link is, I’m not going to fully explain it in this post.  look it up.  The quick summary, you send someone to purchase a product and you make a referral fee or commission on it.

So how do you put an affiliate link on your update or in a direct message?  Simple, a URL shortener, the same way you would share any other link on twitter.  I use bit.ly, but you can use which ever one you want.  Pick your affiliate product to promote, shorten the link and tweet it.  The closer the product you promote is suited to your personal profile or niche, and the more engaged you are to your twitter followers, the higher the chance someone will buy what you are flogging.

And the final secret…Which products work best to promote?

Well that answer is easy and logical if you think about it.  A twitter related product obviously.  People on twitter, use twitter and are always looking at new tools and services to use it better, get more followers, automate responses etc.

The type of tool that has made the most affiliate money is ‘automated following tools’  Most pro versions cost $50 – $100 and almost all have an affiliate program to sign up for.  This one is my top seller and has made me over $2000 in affiliate revenue…

For this you need to sign up to the one of about 6 different companies that do sponsored tweets and you review the sponsored messages to send out and you get paid either per message tweeted, or on a cost per click.  You can make anywhere from $5 per tweet up to $250.  To make the big bucks you pretty much need to be a star or Internet celeb with tonnes of followers.  If not, you will have to settle for a few dollars or cents off each tweet.  If you want to cheat and get massive amounts of followers like the make money guys, just purchase some auto follow software yourself.

There are 2 main ways to make money on twitter, one is getting paid to tweet something, the other is by promoting products via affiliate links.

With both you need to get yourself a solid number of followers and TweetAdder will get you tones of followers.

Here are 7 of my favorite tools I user or promote to make money with my twitter accounts.

#7 TweetROI – The money made off this one so far is still pretty low which is why it comes in at the bottom of the list but I still see potential. They need to get more advertisers or risk dropping to my other list.

#6 TweetBucks – Well I did the world exclusive launch post for these guys and the CEO is a personal friend, and still they only make it to #6 on my list.  The reason?  Commissions on physical products is always going to be smaller than software.  6% on a book vs. up to 50% on software.  It’s hard to compete.  Still I love that you can make money as well on 2nd Tier referrals and I have over 100 referrals.  They also give you $5 just for signing up.  Free money is ALWAYS good!

#5 Promote Social Oomph – Formally known as ‘TweetLater’ this is a tool that twitter money makers should not live without.  This was a sleeper money maker for me and didn’t get me any sales for quite a while, but recently there has been a surge.  I doubt it was the name change, I think it has to do with being able to test out the professional version for free.

#4 Twitter BruteForce Affiliate program This has always been one of my favorite twitter products to promote because of the instant paypal payments.  As soon as you sell one, you instantly get the commission deposited to your paypal account.  You get $11.85 for each sale and it makes my day to see, “You’ve got a payment” from PayPal.  Drew is a Guru in online promotions.

#3 Tweet Adder Affiliate program – I’ve only been promoting this product for a month or so and have seen some solid sales.  ($549.50 USD) Feedback from users is this is super useful tool albeit a little slow.  Still the affiliate sales roll in…

#2 SponsoredTweets – This is one of my favorite new players in this space.  The UI is brilliant and Ted is nothing short of a mad genius.  He always pushes the envelope in the sponsored content space and loves his haters.  I look forward to seeing more advertisers jump in to the waters and test this out. I’ve gotten paid as high as $50 for a single tweet with this system!

#1 The TweetAdder Affiliate Program! This has been my single biggest money maker so far.  I’ve had total sales of $4950.20 earning myself $1836.70 in referral commissions. The software is super sleek, solid and does exactly what it is supposed to do, get you more followers, and fast.   Sign up for the affiliate program and pimp it out to your followers and make some easy cash.

Be-A-Magpie – I tested these guys out for months and have yet to see a single dollar deposited into my account.  I gave them more than enough chances to prove their system as a twitter money maker and tested it with several of my twitter accounts with follower numbers as high as 20,000.  Now if an account with 20,000 followers can’t make any money, what chance do you have?  FAIL

Adf.ly – I have 34 affiliate referrals in the system and my top earning referral made $0.12.  With my 34 affiliates I have made a whooping $0.04572.  WOW 4 cents.  I can’t even buy a gumball. FAIL

Twittad – This is a twitter money making system that I really didn’t like too much from the start but thought I would give it a chance and try to promote it.  I think the biggest problem with this tool is that it really isn’t clear what it is or what it does?  My total revenue to date. ZERO. score = FAIL

ViralTweets – This is the 2nd worst twitter pitch video I’ve ever seen in my life and the product is pretty weak.  I hate products that make you jump through hoops and spam your followers to get the ‘free’ information. = FAIL

RevTwt – This company has potential but is still bottom 5 of my earners so it has made this list. SponsoredTweets has come in and stolen the market from them. Total revenue from these guys is a big $7.51 = FAIL

Well after reading yet another story about custom twitter back ground designs on TechCrunch I decided to finally look into to getting one done.  I contacted the gang over at TweetScenes and gave them very little direction except for use ‘Ninja’s’ and maybe cartoon ones. 

Well in less than a day I got a zip file that included the custom background, a custom avatar that I wasn’t expecting and a PDF with detailed instructions that included the color codes to use to match the twitter option colors to the new custom design.  Sweet!  That makes things super easy.
