If you’re running ads in your Twitter feed – using ad networks like SponsoredTweets, RevTwit and Ad.ly – be sure to read Twitter’s new rules about affiliate marketing.

Twitter says: “Automated or mass-created affiliate advertising is not permitted on Twitter.”

“Updates that are posted automatically to your account through a tool or third-party application, for which you are compensated (whether on a ‘per-click,’ ‘per-sale,’ ‘per-tweet,’ or other basis), are prohibited.

“All sponsored or paid updates must be manually approved.”

The Twitter ad network Assetize immediately changed its options so ads will no longer be sent out automatically. All ads will have to be manually approved from now on.

Be sure to read all the new rules at the Twitter “Help” page.

Then go to all the Twitter ad networks you’re signed up for, and make sure you de-select any “automatic” options in your profile/account set up.

Yes, it will take more effort to manually approve ads for your Twitter feed from now on, but this change will mean must less junk on Twitter for everyone!
